Effective therapy:
working with the human givens

Having spent years studying the mechanisms and effectiveness (or not) of a wide range of therapeutic models, we can now say with confidence why some therapies work well and others do not. We can also be much more certain than ever before what the best approaches for treatment will be in any given disorder, all the way along the spectrum from mild depression to psychosis.

There are almost always two elements to anyoneÕs condition: the presenting disorder(s) and the underlying stressors.

Human givens therapists use a wide range of techniques to resolve problems such as depression, trauma, phobias, addictions and obsessions, and they work in a way which is designed to end these difficulties as quickly as possible. However, if you are not getting your real emotional needs met, authentically and in balance, it is quite likely that the problem may reoccur, or that some other problem may pop up.

Therapy from the givens of human nature addresses both the surface problem and the emotional needs of the client, and once people have learnt the principles of a healthy emotional life they are much less likely to have mental difficulties in the future.
