If you rated any areas low when taking your Emotional Needs Audit you will now have a much clearer indication as to why you may be experiencing difficulties in your life, whether depression, anxiety, stress, anger, or any other form of emotional distress or addiction.

Understanding what we all need to live mentally healthy and fulfilling lives is the essential first step in improving matters and is also the basis of the new school of psychology, known as the human givens approach.

Resolving emotional distress

Sometimes a person may find that they are unable to get their needs met satisfactorily because of an additional problem such as ongoing symptoms of post traumatic distress, or a severe phobia. If you think this might be the case for you, then it is a good idea to see an experienced practitioner trained in using the 'rewind' technique, an effective, safe and non-intrusive psychological method of removing trauma and phobias, which can help with this, often in only one or two sessions.

As well as identifying which of your needs are not being met in a healthy and balanced way, an understanding of why is also important. You may already have a good idea and be happy to tackle this yourself, in which case there are many self-help publications available.

However, many people feel that they would like help in doing so. If so, please use our Effective Counselling Checklist to make sure that the person you choose to help you has the necessary skills and knowledge.
